Origin of the Solaris Name

This name conveys the idea of powerful, concentrated energy that radiates.
All the work done by each person, all this powerful energy must radiate. Radiation is what will happen within the villages themselves. Tomorrow, if serious problems arise, Solaris members will go out into the village, going door-to-door. They will explain: "Don't worry, we have a solidarity network in place; you can join or not, we won't leave you behind." They will reach out to vulnerable individuals, etc.

Three Very Concrete Tools Make Solaris Work

  1. Local directory (if you're not in the directory, "you're useless" because you don't exist in the search engine of this Internet, which is a human Internet—not a virtual one).
  2. Human networking (at minimum, each cell coordinator knows the neighboring cells; members can get to know members of other cells through workshops).
  3. Communication networking (CB and PMR radios).

No Bartering or Commerce

You provide a service, just as you would within your own family. If you want to bake a cake to be kind, that’s fine.

No Bosses

No bosses doesn’t mean there are no leaders.
Leaders are those who demonstrate competence and earn trust in that competence.

Examples of leadership within a group (I’ve adapted some of the skills we find in our cell, changing the names):

agriculture = Marc,
group facilitation = Martha,
medical = Denise & Francine,
nutrition and food preservation = Denise,
engineering, organization & training = Christian,
legal matters = Lucien,
etc.

Rivers That Will Become a Mighty River and Change Society

In response to an internet user who criticized Solaris for creating a micro-society and not seeking to change society as a whole, Frédéric responded:
Solaris is not trying to change society the way the Yellow Vests tried by playing on the usual chessboard, which is perfectly mastered by the people they were addressing. They were torn apart with unprecedented violence, even in France—not even in May ’68. They were infiltrated, co-opted, misled, and above all crushed with violence.
If you think that fighting against the system is the way to achieve something, you haven’t understood centuries of history. That’s not how we’ll get there today.
We need to try something else.
Trying something else means doing it with all those people who are ready not to want to stick heads on pikes, but rather to build another world rooted in resilience, fraternity, and kindness.
They are numerous—very numerous. You encounter them everywhere. You meet people everywhere who are doing their part in the same direction.
All these rivers, swelling more and more, will one day naturally and organically merge into a single mighty river. And it will be an entire people. And what do you think they’ll be able to do against that?
It will change society; it will tip it over.
But if we want to overcome the chaos to come and change the world, we have to get to work. Don’t just be a grasshopper (Solaris meetings can be an opportunity for good times), switch to ant mode, and roll up your sleeves—there’s work to be done.

Frédéric Vidal’s Priority

Continue developing the network’s branches so that the territory is as well-covered as possible when the time comes.
We may not have much time...
